All of our applications will be reviewed by our medical advisory board to determine eligibility, and when necessary, to list patients in order of medical priority.

Dr. David Weinreich
Dr. Weinreich is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in cardiovascular disease, Board Certified in Nuclear Cardiology, and is also a Fellow with the American College of Cardiology. He is a prolific medical writer and has conducted numerous research studies in his field. Dr. Weinreich was voted “Physician of the Year” by Vassar Brothers Medical Center and serves as President of the Medical Staff. He was recognized with an Outstanding Service Award for Quality Improvement in Hospital Cardiology by the American Heart Association. He twice won the distinction “Program Volunteer of the Year” by that same organization. Dr. Weinreich also holds a Distinguished Service Award from the Mid-Hudson Health’s Continuing Medical Education Committee. He is affiliated with the Hudson Valley Heart Center.
Dr. Bruce Raphael
Dr. Raphael received his medical degree from McGill University in 1975. He received his residency training at Jewish General Hospital, followed by two clinical fellowships at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Bellevue Hospital Center. He is a Clinical Professor at New York University and is also Chief of Hematology Services at NYU. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine specializing in Hematology and Medical Oncology. Dr. Raphael is a member of the Hematology Steering Committee of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG).
Dr. Hollenberg received his M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1980 and completed his Internal Medical Residency program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital (Weill-Cornell Campus) in 1983. He then went on to New England Medical Center and M.I.T. to complete a fellowship in Clinical Decision Making between 1983-1985. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Hollenberg returned to Weill Cornell Medical College and joined the Weill Cornell Internal Medicine Associates practice. Dr. Hollenberg is an expert in medical informatics and medical decision analysis.
Dr. Leslie Saland
Dr. Saland received her M.D. at Mount Sinai School of Medicine 2001. She completed her residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Department of Neurology, in 2005. In 2006, she received her fellowship from New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, in the Department of Neurology, Multiple Sclerosis 2006 as well as from New York University Medical Center, Dept. of Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology . She is Board certified and is affiliated with Northern Westchester Hospital.
Dr. Maureen Empfield
Dr. Empfield supervises the clinical aspects of our interviewing process and is now helping to recruit new mental health volunteers. In addition, she does conduct some of the interviewing herself. She has been the Clinical Director of Creedmoor Hospital, Director New York City Regional Office for the New York State Office of Mental Health, Director of Behavioral Health Unit, Northern Westchester Hospital. She has a private practice in Mt. Kisco, and holds weekly support groups for hospice staff, (nurses and social workers).
